Star Symphony Lights Up Major Scottish Event with First Drone Show

This was the first ever drone show in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire

Star Symphony Drone Shows made history this summer, delivering the first ever drone light show at Peterhead Scottish Week in Aberdeenshire. Scotland is renowned for major events like the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and the Edinburgh Fringe, but it’s the country’s community festivals that give it heart, and this year, Peterhead’s 63rd Scottish Week saw its most exciting show yet.

A 100-metre-tall Scottish piper, brought to life by our famous drone designers.

More than 10,000 people lined the waterfront to watch this Scottish drone show, where hundreds of drones lit up the sky with vibrant colours, playful animations, and dynamic formations. The drone show was paired with an outstanding fireworks finale from the British Champion of Champions, Star Fireworks, ensuring the night ended with a bang.

The Star Symphony team worked closely with organisers to create a show that truly celebrated the local spirit. Drones formed dancing pipers, a glowing oil rig with a flickering flame, a wind turbine turning gently in the breeze, and a dancing thistle as a nod to the ‘Flower of Scotland’. A fishing trawler sailed across a shimmering sea, racing cars and sandcastles appeared, and the name “PETERHEAD” stretched 200 metres across the harbour in dazzling multicolours.

One of the highlights of the drone light show was a 3D flying Red Arrow drone formation, paying tribute to the Red Arrows, who often perform at Scottish Week but couldn’t attend this year. The drone-formed Hawk T1 jet banked across the sky, rolling to salute the cheering crowd below.

Chief Pilot Andy Hubble, who led the show, said:

“It was fantastic to bring our drones to entertain the huge crowds in Peterhead. Our drone shows have been a sensation across the UK this summer, and it was brilliant to perform our northernmost show yet alongside our good friends at Star Fireworks.”

Star Symphony drones feel just as at home lighting up the sky with a drone light show over Wembley or the London Stadium as they would at the Edinburgh International Festival or Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo or a community night like Peterhead Scottish Week. Whether it’s a fleet of 100 drones or a full-scale 500+ drone spectacle, our team works closely with local organisers to craft a show that feels personal to each location. From oil rigs and wind turbines to fishing trawlers that support the local economy we can weave these elements into the sky, making each performance a moment people won’t forget.

After the show, social media was flooded with praise:

Honestly WOW! We were all amazed and absolutely loved it!
The drones were brilliant, and the fireworks too, but the drones were really amazing!
My new all-time favourite event at Scottish Week!
That was the best thing I’ve ever seen

Drone shows are proving to be a powerful way to draw in new audiences, with families and young children especially captivated by the glowing lights and 3D animations in the night sky.

As Andy added:

“Drone light shows are a fantastic way to bring people together and boost turnout and ticket sales for events. You only need to scroll through social media after our shows at Peterhead and the Southern 100 on the Isle of Man to see how much people love them.”

As Scotland’s skies lit up with this Scottish drone show, it was clear that drone light shows aren’t just the future of event entertainment, they’re here, and they’re transforming community celebrations into something unforgettable.
